ALBANY — Over 1,000 people turned out the weekend of Aug. 5-6 for the grand opening of the Belmont Village Albany senior living center. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held and visitors were invited to tour the new facility.
“We were absolutely overwhelmed by the community response to our opening,” Belmont Village CEO Patricia Will said.
The opening marks the completion of a long process to develop the land, which is owned by the University of California. The four-story building will eventually house 175 residents and offer independent and assisted living, and memory care
People get a first hand look and taste at Josephine’s Kitchen at the grand opening of Belmont Village Albany in Albany, Calif., on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017. This is the newest senior living community that offers 175 private residences for independent living, assisted living and memory care.
Will said the attendees were a mix –– some interested in either moving in themselves or moving a family member in; looky-loos who like the idea of an open house; and people with a connection to the university, which has a deal with Belmont Village that allows those with such a connection to get placement priority.
“There was a much greater participation from the Cal community,” Will said. “Alumni, faculty who have parents who may want to relocate., retirees and emeriti of Cal itself.”
A planning committee made up of representatives from Cal and Belmont Village, met for the past year to plan programs for the center, including art and culture and lifelong learning.
Belmont Village opens two-three new centers per year, according to Will.
