Gerry Thompson: Artist in Residence
Wood Carvings
Belmont Village Glenview – Chicago
Gerry Thompson started painting in oil and acrylic in middle school, even selling paintings to several Chicago companies. Later she turned her talents to wood carving, creating small painted animals for her children. “You could say my kids were the inspiration,” she recalls. “I made birds, monkeys, dogs, and people figures for them to play with. Then I started making larger birds.” All this while raising children and running a successful kitchen design firm with her husband. “I loved the creation of the birds but could only do a little at a time because I was so busy.” Today her Belmont Village apartment is filled with per painted birds and the many awards they garnered over a lifetime of creative energy.
